Tabco: From innovation in Leak-Free Refueling to world leader in Dual-Secure Refueling
A Revolution in refueling technology
Tabco owes its existence to a clear mission: accelerating the refueling process for trucks without wasting environmentally harmful liquids. In the 1990s, an innovative system was developed, inspired by the aviation industry. Trucks could be refueled faster and without leaks, saving companies with large diesel stocks a significant amount of time. These early innovations laid the foundation for Tabco’s continued growth.
Transition to the railway sector

In 2002, the railway industry discovered Tabco when Siemens, which was facing issues with safe and leak-free refueling of trains, sought a solution. This led to a long-term collaboration, where Tabco’s technology was adapted to the needs of the railway sector. This marked the beginning of a new concept, known as Dual-Secure Refueling. This technology combines the principle of leak-free refueling with mechanical overfill protection, ensuring optimal safety and efficiency.
Standardized systems and custom solutions
For specific types of tanks, such as those used by large train manufacturers, Tabco’s technology has now become the standard. These tanks are always equipped with Tabco systems, ensuring a uniform and reliable solution. Additionally, Tabco offers companies the opportunity to request custom solutions, which can be delivered within just three days, allowing them to quickly respond to specific business needs.
A step forward: from production to innovation
Since 2012, the production of Tabco’s overfill protections has been carried out entirely in-house, which has not only increased quality control but also provided space for further innovation and refinement. This transition marked a new phase where Tabco was no longer just a supplier but a leader in technological developments within their sector. The current owner, Johannes, who began his career at Tabco as an intern at TU Delft, continued this trend and took over the company in 2020.
In-House testing facility for future standards
Another added value of Tabco is their in-house testing facility, where systems are tested for both current and future standards. This allows companies to not only meet today’s strictest safety requirements but also be prepared for tomorrow’s regulations. The ability to combine custom, readily available solutions with advanced testing equipment makes Tabco a unique player in the market.
